Cardiovascular Health

3DI investigators focus on improving clinical outcomes through advancements in diagnostics, treatments, and healthcare delivery models. They evaluate the efficacy and safety of cardiovascular medications, interventions, and technologies to ensure optimal patient care using novel observational research methods (e.g. target trial emulation) and through the conduct of clinical trials. Additionally, they investigate health disparities and work to identify barriers to effective treatment, aiming to improve access to care and health equity.

3DI investigators have focused aiming to improve recovery and outcomes for patients with heart disease by expanding access to cardiac rehabilitation. Their work involves developing and evaluating comprehensive rehabilitation programs that include exercise training, dietary counseling, and psychosocial support to enhance cardiovascular health and quality of life. They study the effectiveness of these interventions in various populations, particularly high-risk groups like veterans, to identify best practices and optimize rehabilitation protocols. Additionally, they are committed to addressing barriers to participation in cardiac rehab, such as accessibility and patient adherence, to ensure that more patients can benefit from these life-saving programs

3DI investigators have examined how PTSD contributes to increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack, hypertension, and stroke. Research in this area includes studying biological, psychological, and behavioral mechanisms through which PTSD affects cardiovascular health, including stress responses, inflammation, and lifestyle factors like smoking and physical inactivity.
