3DI Veteran Engagement Mission Statement

The Mission of the 3DI Veteran Engagement Group (VEG), comprised of Veterans and/or caregivers,
is to strengthen Veteran engagement in VA Health Systems Research at the San Francisco VA Health Care System.
The VEG dialogues directly with research staff to provide meaningful Veteran perspective
and input on VA Health Systems research development, design, and implementation.

This infographic outlines the partnership between a Veteran and researchers.

All Veterans Affairs Heath Systems Research now requires Veteran Engagement to ensure VA-funded research reflects the needs and perspectives of Veterans. 3DI’s VEG is available to support this requirement by actively engaging Veterans and caregivers in designing, conducting and disseminating VHA research.

Our VEG members meet regularly with a goal of ensuring a close partnership with investigators and study teams, promoting a collaborative relationship at every level of the research process. These partnerships make it possible for Veterans to speak into the grant submission process and the ongoing research. Our VEG members provide their own insights into VA care, helping researchers translate this knowledge and insight into meaningful research that improves and accelerates the implementation of health care quality and the improvement of VA clinical care.

The 3DI VEG is guided by the HSR-funded toolkit on Strengthening Excellence in Research through Veteran Engagement (SERVE). This toolkit provides guidance for meaningful engagement of Veterans and other stakeholders in the research process.
