Chronic Pain

3DI’s focus in in chronic pain is multidisciplinary in nature, including investigators from Mental Health, Primary Care, Integrative Health and subspecialty medicine. 3DI investigators focus their research on understanding and managing chronic pain, particularly in Veterans, women, and other high-risk populations. 3DI investigators have focused on both the health consequences of chronic pain and innovative models of care and Whole Health approaches to chronic pain management and opioid reduction, as well as developing and testing new models of integrated, interdisciplinary pain care. Their work explores the biopsychosocial factors that contribute to the pain experience and management challenges, aiming to develop holistic and effective treatment strategies. They investigate the effectiveness of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, including Whole Health, acupuncture, yoga, and other complementary and integrative health modalities . Additionally, they assess the impact of chronic pain on mental health and quality of life, seeking to identify and address the complex interplay between pain, psychological distress, and functional impairment.
